In recent years, the number of foreigners in Taiwan, whether they are migrant workers or visitors, has been rising. Minsyong Office, National Taxation Bureau of the Southern Area, Ministry of Finance reminds foreigners who purchase daily necessities, souvenirs, etc. and receive uniform invoices also have a chance to win the uniform invoice awards.
Minsyong Office indicates that on the 25th of every odd month, the winning numbers for the prizes will be drawn from the uniform invoices issued in the previous period. The minimum cash award is NT$200, and the maximum cash award is NT$10 million. Within three months from the sixth day of the next month after each prize-drawing, prizewinners should bring their identification documents (such as Citizen's Identification Cards, residence permits, or passports) and the winning uniform invoice record stub or certification copies of electronic uniform invoices to claim their prizes at local prize disbursement institutions according to the methods and business hours announced by the institutions. Cloud invoice prizewinners who meet specific criteria may have taxes deducted from the award and the balance transferred directly to their designated accounts.
Moreover, the Office points out that the purchasers cannot claim the prizes in the following situations:
- The uniform invoice does not indicate the amount of the sale or indicates the amount of the sale by a zero.
- The uniform invoice receipt is torn.
- The uniform invoice receipt has been marked as void.
- The winner applied for tax refund in accordance with “The Regulation Regarding the Claiming of VAT Refunds by Foreign Passengers Purchasing Goods Eligible for VAT Refund”.
